When did the web turn boring? In search of texture, color, and personality in digital spaces
Переглядів 34Рік тому
This is something I've been thinking about lately... why are all the digital spaces so boring today? Yes they are sleek, reliable, and accessible. But why are they lacking so much personality? I've been building my website from scratch in an attempt to express myself with more creativity and control. Perfectionism is Death: Trying in Public
Переглядів 57Рік тому
In this video I brainstorm on a topic I've been thinking a lot about lately. If you want to succeed, you have to be comfortable with trying (and failing) in public. How do we find the magic sweet spot between launching fast and launching great projects? I also stumble onto a thought that I like a lot. It's the idea that after success, your failures become cool to examine and you're no longer em...

In this video I give a meandering account of my relationship with writing, from childhood to today. I talk about my first published piece of non-fi...

"This is Jack Kerouac over here" and Jack just sitting there massaging his forehead. I turned it off after that, he answered all my woes with that right there. Rest easy.

I wrote, on "Jack Kerouac's Rules..." "There are many little mistakes in this presentation, yet I enjoyed it." I'm afraid that during my time as a court social worker perfect accuracy was proclaimed by the judges above, whom occupied a peak of the universe that no god yet created could approach. I enjoy your channel and was blown away by "How To Write Better" and the pictures you created of the various conversations which are possible.

!3) 2:00/5:59 "Remove literary, grammatical and syntactical inhibition!" GO TOO FAR with this and any spoken tongue will become DEAD, like LATIN! But not SANSKRIT: It is Grammatical and syntactical, as well as compositional ANATHEMA to break away from SANDHI Rules.

These are great words to meditate on, shows me the direction I’m going in with my songwriting. It’s like he put into words exactly what I feel I go through in songwriting and poetry. I admire anyone who can be raw and show their good and bad sides. Not just of character but of their work. Great artists aren’t perfect and their work isn’t always genius. And they’re okay with that, accepting the process of creating.

That's amazing, love the connection to songwriting. Of course Jack's writing was extremely poetic so that makes sense to me.

Beatific, accepting Saint: beatific, accepting, holy. So a dumbsaint might refer to a person being of the mind to accept all things that happen, to absorb them into his experience without any urge to change or correct, with complete understanding that all things happen and are happening, and portray these things in his mind without judgement.

Jack;s being prissy with Bill Buckley. These rules are no more useful that the bogus Elmore Leonard 10 rules (which Mr Leonard invented for a speech he needed to make the next day.) Jack was always performing his appointed role. When you get a more rounded view, there was plenty that was bogus. Read "Off The Road". His wife's account.
